After I finished my first book, I planned to write about motherhood. (I’ve been a stepmom for a decade and am now a biological mother as well.) As I filled a notebook, I kept traveling further back in time until I realized that the book was about something else entirely: finding my way through the relationships that eventually led to my becoming a stepmom. Love is hard. I found myself in sticky situations with no clear answers. It took me a long time to emerge.
My new graphic memoir, A Brief History of My Affairs, was recently acquired by Pantheon with a tentative publication date of early 2025. The book—which I’ll spend the next year and a half writing, illustrating, and revising—chronicles my journey from unhealthy relationships to healthy ones, including all the therapy sessions that implies. I’m thrilled that the book found a home with Pantheon, and editors Lisa Lucas and Zach Phillips.
