A common type of hummingbird that nests in forests and gardens east of the Mississippi River. Plumage molts once per year. Migrate to Mexico and Central America. Solitary and territorial. Heart rates up to 1,260 beats per minute, breathing 250 breaths per minute. Eat nectar from flowers and flowering trees, insects, and spiders.
From Your Daily Songbird, a little side project I'm working on, in which I post illustrations of birds daily, or almost daily. Mostly songbirds, but others too. It's all a little loosey-goosey.
